Most global tech leaders believe their companies are unprepared for AI

Artificial intelligence is a top priority among IT executives worldwide, but enterprises are still not ready to fully implement it, according to a survey of chief information officers conducted by Lenovo Group Ltd.

The Beijing-based company, which supplies enterprise hardware, software, and services, surveyed 750 technology executives across 10 global markets to understand their views on AI. The majority believe that areas such as computing infrastructure and corporate policies on ethical AI use are not yet ready. 42% also said they do not expect a return on AI investments for at least the next two years.

The push to implement AI across all types of business — both within and beyond the technology sector — is driving CIO spending, with 96% expecting increased investment over the next 12 months, according to the study. However, many struggle to demonstrate clear returns, and questions are increasingly being raised about whether AI spending can be converted into measurable business outcomes.

Key barriers to AI adoption, according to CIOs from 750 companies:

“After years of IT departments expanding into non-traditional responsibilities, we are now seeing AI pushing CIOs back to their core priorities,” said Ken Wong, President of Lenovo Solutions and Services Group. “This is driven by the clear promise of AI adoption combined with the pressure IT leaders face to prove the value of these investments.”
