DECT cordless phones

What are DECT cordless phones?

DECT stands for Digital Enhanced Cordless Technology. Simply put, the phone connects to its base wirelessly. This means you can walk and talk, or make and receive calls from another room. Fortunately, the days when you had to carry the entire phone unit around the house are long gone!

Unlike wired phones, DECT phones do not connect directly to a landline. Instead, they require a separate base unit to operate. If you have only one handset, this is fairly simple — the base and charging station are usually combined into one device. Any additional handsets are typically supplied with their own charging cradle.

What are the pros and cons of DECT cordless phones?

The main advantage of DECT phones is that they are incredibly convenient. You are no longer limited to making calls in just one room. Instead, you can enjoy a range of up to 50 meters or more indoors and up to 300 meters or more outdoors. In addition, thanks to the ability to connect additional handsets, a phone is always within reach. Each base can support up to six handsets, so you can place them throughout your home for extra convenience. This also makes them ideal for offices — no more moving phones from desk to desk!

DECT phones also allow you to connect a headset for making and receiving calls. They are perfect for those who spend a lot of time at work talking on the phone, as they eliminate the need to hold the handset to your ear for hours. Some DECT phones are only compatible with specific DECT headsets, but many others support Bluetooth for added convenience.

There are also many additional options that are only possible with DECT phones.

From advanced caller ID and call blocking to crystal-clear speakerphone models from Gigaset — DECT phones open up a whole new world!

The only real drawback of DECT phones is the fact that they require constant power to operate. In most cases, this will not be an issue. However, in the event of a power outage, you will not be able to use your cordless phone.

How to choose a DECT cordless phone?

Be sure to review the technical specifications of each model to understand exactly what it has to offer.

One of the most important parameters of any cordless phone is the maximum range in line-of-sight conditions. Most household models are designed to operate within 50 m indoors and can cover areas up to 300 m in open space (although there are models with a range of up to 1.5 km). The larger the total area of your home, the higher these parameters should be.
