InfoTel was selected to supply and implement a modern fault-tolerant telecommunications platform OpenScape Voice for the company "Ukrhydroenergo."

About the Customer

Ukrhydroenergo PJSC is the largest hydro—generating company in Ukraine, which is included in the list of 15 most prominent enterprises in the public sector of the economy, whose total assets account for 70 percent of the total in the public sector. The company consists of ten stations on the Dnieper and Dniester rivers: Kyiv HPP and Kyiv HPP, Kanevskaya HPP, Kremenchuk HPP, Sredneprovskaya HPP, Dneprovskaya HPP-1, and Dneprovskaya HPP-2, Kakhovskaya HPP, Dniester HPP, and Dniester HPP. Kanevskaya HPP and Kakhovskaya HPP-2 are in the process of preparing for construction. In 2017, the total number of hydraulic units at the company's stations was 103, and their total installed capacity reached 5,747 MW. The company is constantly dynamically developing and provides peak load coverage, frequency and power regulation, and mobile emergency reserve in the united power system of Ukraine.

Objectives

Ukrhydroenergo was tasked to modernize the communication system, which would allow:

• Implement a comprehensive IP telephony solution with high fault tolerance and unified system architecture for all hydroelectric power plants;
• Reduce possible downtime risks;
• Reduce communication costs;
• Provide a single control center for the existing OpenScape 4000 communication system and the new platform;
• To build a local solution for unified communications in the future.

Also, the solution should be scalable, flexible, more straightforward, and more economical to manage.

Solution

Of all the offers, InfoTel's solution was the most practical and optimal in terms of price/quality ratio. It is a software package based on the OpenScape Voice operator-level voice platform manufactured by Atos Unify.

The solution consists of:

• Fully fault-tolerant OpenScape Voice configuration based on the Duplex co-located solution. Server nodes are designed so that if one node fails, another node can handle 100% of the telephone load. This ensures high availability and reliability of 99.999% of telephony services, i.e., less than 5.1 minutes of downtime per year;
• OpenScape Voice platform deployed in the virtual environment of the Customer's IT infrastructure;
• The existing OpenScape 4000 system, which is used as a gateway and integrated with the new OpenScape Voice platform via the SIP-Q interface, which provides full transparency on the connections between them;
• OpenScape Branch gateways, which are used for integration with existing communication systems at each HPP, for the possibility of making any calls sent to the traditional PSTN network based on TDM technology;
• The SBC session Border Controller is manufactured by Ribbon;
• Terminal devices in the form of IP phones of the OpenScape Desk Phone family of the CP series.

Implementation results

Within the framework of building a corporate telephony network, the following tasks were solved:

• The transition to the main communication equipment from one manufacturer has been carried out by 99%, which will significantly reduce the cost of management, maintenance and training of personnel;
• High-quality telephone communication is provided for the company's employees;
• Reduced long-distance communication costs;
• The infrastructure for further implementation of the unified communications solution has been prepared.
