Atos supports the deployment of three factories in Europe for Automotive Cells Company

Today, Atos announces that Automotive Cells Company (ACC), a European electric vehicle battery manufacturer, has selected it to oversee and maintain the IT infrastructure of its three gigafactories[1], located in France, Germany, and Italy.

ACC must rely on best-in-class IT infrastructure to achieve its production goal of more than 2 million lithium-ion batteries per year by 2030, representing 120 GWh of electricity. The first of the gigafactories in Billy-Berclau (northern France) is scheduled to be operational by the end of 2023, marking ACC’s official market entry. Once it reaches full capacity of 40 GWh, the Billy-Berclau plant will account for one-third of ACC’s total production. The battery manufacturer then plans to expand its capacity with two additional gigafactories based on Atos support in Kaiserslautern (Germany) in 2025 and Termoli (Italy) in 2026.

Atos’ managed infrastructure services solution for ACC is based on a hybrid business model combining production capabilities, operational flexibility, and financial competitiveness. Project management and system expertise services will be delivered by Atos teams in Bordeaux, known for their expertise in managed infrastructure services provided to major manufacturers worldwide. Atos’ global delivery center in Poland will monitor and support network and infrastructure operations for this future flagship of European industry.

During the tender process, with its focus on consulting and co-development, Atos prioritized open and transparent dialogue with ACC teams and demonstrated flexibility in adapting to highly scalable requirements, needs, and volumes. All these efforts were aimed at establishing and stabilizing the customer’s processes and architecture. Thanks to these practical solutions, ACC was able to assess the quality of Atos’ offer and its ability to manage the critical development phase of an electric vehicle battery manufacturer.

The proper execution of our production processes depends on several factors, including flawless IT infrastructure. This is a key prerequisite for ramping up production in Billy-Berclau and reaching nominal capacity by the end of 2024. We selected Atos to oversee and maintain our three gigafactories in France, Germany, and Italy not only for the quality of their proposal, but also for their experience in building strategic digital environments within a robust, industrialized, cost-effective, and transparent infrastructure,” said François Kerrot, CIO of ACC.

With the support of European authorities, TotalEnergies-Saft, Stellantis, and Mercedes, ACC aims to become a leading European manufacturer of sustainable and affordable high-capacity electric vehicle batteries. Three years after its founding, ACC already has an R&D center in Bruges, near Bordeaux, as well as a pilot plant in Nersac (southwest France) and its first-ever gigafactory in Billy-Berclau, northern France.

We are proud to support ACC in scaling up production and to contribute to the development of electric battery manufacturing in France, leveraging our expertise in critical IT infrastructure. On behalf of Atos, I would like to thank ACC for their trust in our expertise. As a pioneer in decarbonized digital services, Atos shares ACC’s ambition to decarbonize our industries through technological innovation,” commented Stéphane Richard, Global Head of Technology Consulting and Customized Services at Atos.

This project is led by Tech Foundations, the Atos Group business line specializing in managed services.
