The history of the holiday dates back to 1999. At that time, one of
Ted Kekatos, an American system administrator from Chicago, launched an initiative to establish a new professional holiday that would bring together professionals in this field. On July 28 of that year, this holiday, known as “System Administrator Appreciation Day,” was celebrated for the first time in the United States. Due to the extreme relevance and demand for system administrators worldwide, System Administrator Appreciation Day quickly gained widespread popularity and entered the international arena.
They say that the profession of a system administrator is akin to that of a doctor—if everything is working well, no one even thinks about them, but if it isn’t, everyone remembers the system administrator and actively seeks their help. On this day, it is customary to honor the humble workers on the “invisible front” who safeguard the well-being of corporate networks and computers—after all, the company’s success depends directly on them.
