MITEL COMPLETES DEAL WITH ATOS FOR THE ACQUISITION OF UNIFY

The combined company becomes a global leader in the enterprise communications segment, focused on further growth

SANNNIVEL, California - (BUSINESS NEWS) - Mitel, a global leader in business communications, today announced the completion of its previously disclosed plans to acquire Unify, the Unified Communications and Collaboration (UCC) and Communication and Collaboration Services (CCS) divisions of the Atos group. The terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

This deal strengthens the position of the combined company as a global leader in unified communications (UC) with the second position in the global enterprise UC market and reinforces regional leadership with the first position in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) and more than 10 individual countries. Mitel also expands its position as a global leader in multi-cell digital cordless communications (DECT), in addition to securing leading positions in the DECT market in the EMEA region, Latin America, and 19 other countries.

With Unify, Mitel now has a customer base of more than 75 million users in over 100 countries and an expanded ecosystem of more than 5,500 resellers, service providers, technology, and strategic alliance partners ready to help even more organizations modernize and adapt their communication capabilities to meet the growing demands of today’s workplace.

Tarun Lamba, President and Chief Executive Officer of Mitel, will serve as President and CEO of the combined company. Markus Hensel, CEO of Unify, has been appointed Chief Sales Officer and will lead Mitel’s global sales and services. Other members of the Mitel executive team will continue in their roles, while Unify leaders from product, operations, marketing, IT, finance, and other departments will bring their expertise into Mitel’s senior leadership team. The company now employs more than 5,000 employees worldwide, strengthening its ability to serve customers and partners and creating a deep talent base to accelerate UC innovation.

"This is a transformational milestone for the Mitel and Unify teams, as well as for the entire communications and collaboration industry," said Mitel President and CEO Tarun Lamba. "Unify brings broad geographic presence, a rich portfolio, deep enterprise expertise, and a talented team that perfectly complements Mitel’s strengths. I look forward to the future we will build together and the important communications innovations we will deliver to our customers, partners, and employees."

Combined portfolio strengths enhance the ability to create additional value for customers and drive growth
With the acquisition, Mitel adds Unify’s voice platforms, collaboration and contact center products, devices and endpoints, and related intellectual property to its portfolio, expanding the company’s ability to provide customers with choice and flexibility throughout the lifecycle of their communication needs. In addition, the combined company will be able to deliver greater value to customers in key verticals such as healthcare, the public sector, hospitality, and financial services through the depth and breadth of specialized vertical solutions and integration capabilities.

Unify also strengthens Mitel’s position in the enterprise segment with a strong managed services business and extensive experience helping large enterprise customers digitally transform their communication environments. This complements Mitel’s success in the mid-market, enabling the combined company to effectively serve organizations of all sizes and accelerate growth.

"I am very optimistic about the potential this creates for customers, partners, and employees," said Markus Hensel, Chief Sales Officer of Mitel. "It has been a privilege to lead Unify during this pivotal moment as a resilient, profitable, and growing business, and I am confident that bringing our two organizations together will not only strengthen our market position but also drive innovation, growth, and long-term success."

Continuity for partners and customers
While the organizations integrate operations, Mitel and Unify customers can continue to rely on the same award-winning solutions and services they currently use without disruption. The company is committed to ensuring customers are informed of any future product and service plans, as well as upgrade opportunities and new capabilities.

Mitel and Unify resellers and strategic technology partners can expect a similarly smooth transition with minimal changes this year. As integration progresses, the top priority is to create unified partner and alliance programs that deliver significant value to partners.

Future plans
The company is actively working on integrating go-to-market processes, portfolio roadmaps, and organizational structures, leveraging the strengths of both organizations to create a world-class set of offerings and programs. Mitel plans to share its vision for the integrated portfolio and partner programs in early 2024.
