Seven steps to hotel “mobility”

Traditionally, guests expect good service, courteous staff, and comfortable rooms from a hotel. Today, new requirements have been added – the level of technology and the ability to interact with hotel staff using mobile technologies.

To perform their work as efficiently as possible, employees also need the ability to communicate quickly with each other.

The best solution is mobility, where Wi-Fi covers the entire hotel premises.

 Requirements for a mobile solution:

Seven steps to implementing “mobile technologies” in a hotel:

  1. Create a “mobile-first” culture – link lighting and temperature control to mobile applications for guests and staff.
  2. Increase staff mobility – give employees the ability to communicate with both guests and colleagues from anywhere in the hotel. Rainbow software enables mobility for guests and staff through a single solution.
  3. Deploy a Wi-Fi network throughout the entire hotel. Constant access to a fast and reliable network for guests and staff is an essential part of guest service. Wi-Fi remains one of the key services in the hospitality industry. The number of devices connected to your network will continue to grow as guests increasingly use Wi-Fi-enabled mobile devices, such as IoT devices, requiring a reliable Wi-Fi network. To ensure the high level of performance expected by guests and required for hotel operations, the hotel’s Wi-Fi network must comply with the latest industry standards.
The STELLAR Wi-Fi solution provides service to guests, increases hotel team productivity, and supports further business growth.
  4. Think beyond guest rooms and facilities – Wi-Fi should be available both in rooms and in any other area of the hotel. Your guests expect to be able to access the internet wherever they are – in their room or anywhere on the hotel premises. When designing the hotel, make Wi-Fi available everywhere. Since staff also require access to perform their duties, ensure that all service areas are equipped with reliable Wi-Fi connectivity.
  5. Personalize data – configure access based on user profiles. Both guests and employees should have access to your network. You can also increase priority by creating VIP accounts with extended capabilities, for example for loyalty program members. Clearly define which information is accessible to guests and which to staff, ensuring that guest personal data remains confidential.
  6. Ensure that your network supports IoT. IoT devices are transforming the hotel room experience – automatic temperature control, access keys, and lighting. The number and capabilities of IoT devices will continue to grow (introducing additional entry points for attacks, increasing the risk of breaches and security incidents). By using “IoT containment” technology, each device type is stored in a separate “container,” and any breach affects only IoT devices of the same type without spreading to others. To simplify the work of your IT department, use a solution that automatically places new devices into the appropriate container, reducing security risks.
  7. Use a multi-layered security approach

A single breach or attack can cost a hotel not only time and money, but also damage its reputation.

To protect the network, use a three-level approach:

  1.  Device level – device fingerprinting technologies to protect devices and provide appropriate access
  2. Application level – deep packet inspection (DPI) technologies to ensure application visibility and control
  3. Network level – protection of the integrity of network infrastructure devices

Start preparing for the implementation of mobile technologies now. Hotels that delay will always be playing catch-up, as they will be unable to provide mobile services and meet guest expectations. Being at the forefront of modern technologies will positively impact all aspects of operations: guest satisfaction, loyalty, revenue, and staff productivity. Your guests and employees will definitely appreciate it.
